Project 04

Overview
This team project developed a compact solar tracker that used an Arduino-based control system and a purpose-built optical and mechanical assembly to maintain alignment with a light source. I focused on the optical system and physical design, translating the tracking concept into a SolidWorks model and a 3D-printed prototype that could be assembled and tested.
Approach
Defined an optical alignment concept that could produce a useful directional error signal for the Arduino control system.
Designed the supporting optical and mechanical geometry in SolidWorks, accounting for component placement, motion, assembly, and the constraints of 3D printing.
Integrated the printed structure with the Arduino controls and worked with a three-person team to assemble, test, and refine the tracking response.
